Donald & Cora Bradford's 50th Anniversary
Pennfield Couple Mark Golden Wedding Anniversary - June 26, 1976

     The family of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bradford senior of Pennfield were hosts for an informal reception held at the Orange Hall, Pennfield Corner on the occasion of the couple's golden anniversary. For the event the hall was decorated with motifs of the anniversary, streamers, white bells and floral baskets of early summer flowers. To receive their guest, Mrs. Bradford wore a gown of gold colored crimplene with corsage of white carnations. Receiving with her were Mrs. And Mrs. Myles Bradford of Blacks Harbour. Mrs. Myles Bradford chose a gown of navy-blue in a floral pattern and a corsage of pink with white carnations. During the afternoon the couple renewed their marriage vows. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Arthur Owens of Centreville. A sole was rendered by Mrs. Frederick A. Bradford of Montreal with Rev. and Mrs. Owens singing a duet with accordion accompaniment by Rev. Fred A. Bradford. Following the ceremony Mr. Bradford presented his wife with a diamond ring. Mr. and Mrs. Bradford were united in marriage at the parsonage of the United Baptist Church (26 June 1926), Pennfield by the Rev. Gordon Beckett of Moncton. Mrs. Arthur Robinson of Saint John was maid of honor and best man was the late Theodore Bradford, a brother of the groom. They resided at Blacks Harbour where Mr. Bradford was employed with Connors Bros. Ltd. On his retirement they moved to Pennfield. Mrs. Bradford was the former Miss Cora Burrell of McAdam, a daughter of Mrs. Major Spencer now of Saint John and the late Howard Burrell; Mr. Bradford was a son of the late Lola and Martin Bradford of Blacks Harbour. The couple received gifts including money, bouquets of summer flowers, and a telegram from Governor General and Mrs. Leger. Opposition Leader Joe Clark and Mrs. Clark and Fred McCain, MP. Refreshments were arranged buffet-style. The brides table was centred by a large anniversary cake in the form of the figure '50' and was trimmed with gold and white motifs. The couple family consists of four sons, Roy H. and Harold L. of St. George; Donald E. Jr. of Blacks Harbour and Rev. Frederick A. Bradford of Montreal; seven daughters, Mrs. Lorne McGarrigle and Mrs. Clarence Gaudette of Blacks Harbour; Mrs. Charles Steeves of Moncton; Mrs. Leo Rhynolds and Mrs. Louis Gagne, Blacks Harbour; Mrs. Judy Sommerville of Downsville, Ontario and Mrs. Douglas Wentworth, Fredericton all of whom were home for the anniversary together with 47 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Among the many relatives and friends attending were from Montreal, Ontario, Moncton, Alberta, McAdam, Saint John, Centreville, Fredericton, St. George, Beaver Harbour and Blacks Harbour.
