Cape St. Mary's
- Otto P. Kelland

Take me back to my western boat
Let me fish off Cape St. Mary's
Where the hog-down sail
And the Fog horns wail
With my friends the Browns and the Clearys
Let me fish off Cape St. Mary's

Let me feel my dory lift
To the broad Atlantic combers
Where the tide rip swirls
And the wild ducks whirl
And old Neptune calls the numbers.
'Neath the wild Atlantic combers

Let me sail up Golden Bay
With my oilskins all a-streaming
From the thunder squalls when I hauled my trawls.
And my old Cape Ann a-gleaming
With my oilskins all a-streaming.

And let me view that ragged shore
With the beaches all a-glisten
With the caplin spawn
Where from dusk till dawn
You bait your trawn, and you listen
To the undertow a-hissin'.

And when I reach that last big shoal
Where the groundswells break asunder,
Where the wild sands roll to the surge's toll
Let me be a man and take it
When my dory fails to make it.

Oh take me back to that snug green cove
Where the seas roll up their thunder
There let me rest
In the Earth's cool breast
Where the stars shine out their wonder
And the seas roll up their thunder.

Clean Up After The Time
- William Penney (Fine Crowd)

I woke up this morning, I had slept on the floor.
I opened one eye, there was beer cans galore.
My head, oh she pounded, my whole body shook.
Well I nearly got sick when I got up to look.
And the burns on the canvas, the stains on the bed.
Sure, there was never a window where one should be at.
There was beer in the dish that was left for the cat.
But oh, what a wonderful time.

(chorus)
So you grab the dust pan, and I'll grab the mop.
And you clean the bottom while I clean the top.
Oh break out the lest oil and tear up some rag.
To clean up after the time.

I went to kitchen to grab me a drink.
There were glass all rotten, heap up in the sink.
There was half bowls of moose soup all strew around the place.
And your half eaten cold plates took up all the space.
There was unopen home-brew still left from the tear.
Three odd pairs of shoes, left some strange underwear.
The accordion still smoking, apart in the chair.
But oh, what a wonderful time.

(chorus)

Then I went to the bathroom to grab me a scrub.
We were all out of arse wipe, still beer in the tub.
Now the toilet was plugged up and filled to the rim.
And your blue bottle flies were lined up for a swim.
Well the mirror was broken, the shower curtain tore.
I don't think it was water that wetted the floor.
Well some unpatient knocker left holes in the door.
But oh, what a wonderful time.

The Crawl
- John Mann/Geoff Kelly/Jay Knudson (Spirit of the West)

(chorus)
Well we're good old boys, we come from the North Shore
Drinkers and carousers the likes you've never seen
And this night by God! We drank ‘til there was no more
From the Troller to the Raven with all stops in between.

It all began one afternoon on the shores of Ambleside
We were sittin' there quite peacefully with the rising of he tide
When an idea it came to mind for to usher in the Fall
So we all agreed next Friday night we'd go out on the crawl

(chorus)

We planned to have a gay old time, the cash we did not spare
We left all the cars at home and paid the taxi fare
I got out to Horseshoe Bay a little after five
From a table in the corner I heard familiar voices rise

(chorus)

Spirits they ran high that night old stories we did share
Of the days when we were younger men and never had a care
The beer flowed like a river and we drank the keg near dry
So we drained down all our glasses and were thirsty bye and bye

(chorus)

Park Royal Hotel, The Rusty Gull, Square-Rigger and Queens Cross
We'd started out with eight good boys but half had gotten lost
For you'll never keep the lads together when their eyes began to rove
So there was just the three of us that made it to Deep Cove

(chorus)

We arrived out at The Raven just in time for the last call
The final destination of this the first annual crawl
We dug deep into our pockets there was no money to be found
Nine miles home and for walking we are bound

(chorus - repeat)

Coal By The Sea
- Gerard MacNeil

(chorus)
Mush a doo doo I a, singing fal the doo I addy
Mush a doo doo I a, singing fal the doo I ay
Mush a doo doo I a, singing fal the doo I addy
Mush a doo doo I a, singing fal the doo I ay

In Seventeen twenty, they sailed to C.B.
in search for the coal the cropped up by the sea.
They settled the land round Morien Bay,
and 'twas here that coal mining started they say.

(chorus)

The mines shutdown at Morien Bay,
they packed up and moved to work in Glace Bay.
Seven mines did they open in this big town,
yet only no.26 is still to be found.

(chorus)

Coal mining spread to many a town,
and as far as we know it will always be around.
Cape Breton Is rich in coal fields, you see,
and it all began with that coal by the sea.

(chorus)

The immagrants came from far and wide,
to work in coal mines side by side.
Mates became buddies and brothers to be,
down in the deeps of ol'C.B.

(chorus)

Cod Liver Oil
- Johnny Burke

I'm a young married man and I'm tired of my life
For lately I've married an aling old wife
She does nothing all day but sit down and sigh
See I wish to the lord that I only could die

(chorus)
Oh doctor, oh doctor, oh dear Doctor John
Your cod liver oil is so pure and so strong
I'm afraid of me life, I'll go down in the sile
If me wife comes to drinking your cod liver oil

Well a friend of me own came to save me one day
And he told my wife was just binding away
And he also told that she would get strong
If I buy her a bottle from dear Doctor John

(chorus)

I bought her a bottle, 'twas just for a try
And the way that she drank it you'd swear she was dry
I bought her another it went just the same
Till I know she's got cod liver oil on the brain

(chorus)

My house it resembles a big doctor's shop
With bottles and bottles from bottom to top
And when in the morning the kettle do boil
You would swear we were singing out cod liver oil

(chorus)
